Meet Our Teams

Abbotsford RopeWorks

Picture
Abbotsford RopeWorks was founded in 2015 by Emily Whitman and Kourtni Eckstein. Both coaches have a combined 40+ years of experience and have competed in many provincial, national and world level competitions. Abbotsford RopeWork's goal is to expand the sport of jump rope through recreational and competitive programs in the Fraser Valley. Currently, RopeWorks has 50+ competitors and some recreational jumpers. Ages range from 4-28 and our practices run three days a week and are broken down by programs. The team works with Jump Rope for Heart by going around to schools and performing for kids to promote a healthy heart and to get kids moving. This year RopeWorks will be taking 42 kids to the provincial competition in Nelson, BC and 4 senior jumpers will be attending the World Jump Rope competition in Orlando, FL. RopeWorks enjoys working with local schools in the Fraser Valley to teach gym classes to all grades in hopes of expanding the sport to a variety of kids. The group is looking forward to welcoming a new member in August as coach Kourtni prepares for her third baby. Other coaches include: Mckensi Paton, Natalie Jorgensen, and Ellory Smith.

Abbotsford Skipping Sensations

Founded in 1990, The Abbotsford Skipping Sensations is a team of 7 to 23 year old athletes coached by Head Coach Deirdre Degagne and Assistant Coach Kira Glasgow. The Skipping Sensations have represented Abbotsford at local, provincial, national and international competition. In addition, the team performs at community events, teaches jump rope camps and workshops and has hosted several National Championships in Abbotsford. Several of the Abbotsford Skipping Sensations team members are British Columbia All-Stars and have performed and taught at more high profile events. The Competitive section of the team travels throughout BC and across Canada to compete at the Provincial and national competitions respectively. Internationally, the team has competed at many events in the United States and at World level events in Canada, the UK, Hong Kong and Florida. In 2017, senior girls on the team traveled to Thailand for a service trip. This year, several team members will compete at the World Jump Rope Championship in Florida.

Black Widow Rope Spinners

The Black Widow Rope Spinners is a competitive jump rope team from Penticton. The team is coached by Cathy Cunningham and has 25 active members this season. The jumpers practise for two hours, twice a week in order to prepare for competition throughout the year. The team is a demonstration team for the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation and they travel to schools in the area to put on shows and promote the sport of jump rope. The highlight of the season is the Provincial competition in April, the National competition in May, and for some, the World Jump Rope Competition in July. The jumpers look forward to the week  long Peachfestival in August  where the team performs a number of shows on the main stage throughout  the festival. The team also does shows for other sporting events, conventions, and community activities when they arise. The team has four members on the BC Allstar team who help with coaching, preparing show agendas, and skill development.

Island Hoppers

The Island Hoppers Jump Rope team has been in existence in the Victoria area for over 25 years. Our team continues to grow and is well known for providing enthusiastic and lively demonstrations at skills building camps, schools, local sporting and community events. The 45 jumpers on the Island Hoppers team consist of noncompetitive and competitive members ranging in ages from 7 to 22 years old. Because our team is multi-aged, our senior team members mentor and assist with the skill level development of our junior members. Our team has a group of dedicated parents who believe in the sport and have proven they are dedicated and willing to do what it takes to evolve the team.

Nelson Rhythm Ropers

The Rhythm Ropers are celebrating their 20th year of being involved in competitive jumping in BC.  The team was formed in 1987 when head coach Brenda Reid moved to Nelson with her two daughters.  Her daughters had been on a Jump Rope for Heart team coached by Brenda Reid in Fort St. John. The girls wanted her to start a team in Nelson and so she did and the Rhythm Ropers were formed.  In 1998 the team moved into the competitive realm of Jump Rope. Since then the team has participated successfully at the provincial, national and international level of the sport. The team continues to be both an entertainment team and competitive team.  The club has enjoyed success at the Junior Olympics, Pan Ams, World Jump Rope and FISAC Worlds. The jumpers have had many opportunities to travel and make new friends. This year the team has many new rookie jumpers and are looking forward to them stepping into the world of competitive jump rope and creating new memories and friends.
The present coaches of the team are Brenda Reid, Crystal Schellenberg, Janine Pierson and Dana Knapik.
